I know how hard the winters are - I was on the coast in Izumo (literal translation - land of the many folded clouds). Once it was winter, we didn't see the sun until April. I remember clearly the first sunny day of 'spring' during my second year and heading to the coast with a friend.

Awww poor watch. I once had a Timex watch for years and had been through 2 replacement straps. What finally did it in was whent eh 2nd strap broke so I put it in my jeans pocket. Then subsequently washed those jeans.

Judging from the time the watch stopped, to it's credit, it survived the washing machine. It was when I chucked it in the dryer that it gave up.

I am on skype, bu I think the time difference will make it difficult to catch each other. Sometimes when I'm on I'm in school so I can't actually chat, I'll make an effort to remember to change the online status of my skype thing so you know if I'm there or not.

You need to mention how Christmas is also a big holiday for couples. Gift giving isn't really done here but boyfreinds and girlfriends will generally exchange gifts at Christams and I suppose husbands and wives too.
Christmas is like a second Valentine's Day, love hotels are booked weeks and even months in advance.

When I was a teenager they knocked on the door at my Dads house for the 10th time in three months. They had been stopping by for years and never got the message despite how bluntly it was worded by my parents.

At the time we had a very large dog who loved to bark really loud at strangers and show them his pretty shiny and oh so sharp teeth. I opened the main door but not the screened door. I held our dog by his collar while they rattled on, talking louder over his increased barking and finally I said..."Look, this screen door is really old and doesn't close properly and I'm not really sure how much longer I can hold on to his collar" they didn't say a word, they just looked at each other and RAN so very fast to their car and you know, they never came back

I have always found in talking to Jehovah's witnesses that it is much better to talk to them than to argue with them. A reasonably pleasant hour where it becomes clear that they won't shift you from your position will usually result in their failure to return, even if they make an appointment to do so. Where possible, I like to send them away laughing. It's certainly better for my blood pressure and temper if I can do this.
